Newsletter May 2016

The Whales have had a fantastic start to the 2016 season, with some impressive team performances that have us sitting second on the club championships and hosting one of the most successful Ladies Day in rugby, with 300+ ladies at Rawson we were able to raise just over $10,000 for the Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation.

We have just completed round 5, having played Balmain, Lindfield, Petersham, Knox and Colleagues. After a solid pre season we are now gaining some momentum in this years shorter season, as the competition has been reduced to 8 teams in Div 1, leaving us with only 9 games left to play in regular season. We will be looking to repeat last years efforts, where we had every team make the finals.

First grade are in scintillating form and are currently top of the ladder with 4 wins and 4 bonus points. They secured their position on the weekend, after a top of the table clash against the previously undefeated Colleagues resulted in us coming away with a convincing 30 – 15 win at Rawson. A majority of the first grade team have been playing together for a few years now and are in the best position in recent history to make their charge to the Kentwell Cup.

There is a lot of pressure for spots across the club, which is bringing out the best in the players, with second grade sitting second on the ladder, again with 4 wins but with only the one bonus point so far this year. Mosman were able to get the win over Colleagues 18 – 7 on the weekend in a physical 2nd grade encounter, a team that still has players like Slammin, Rooster and Virgona running around. Can the boys retain the Burke Cup again this year, we would like to hope so.

Colts, third, fourth and fifth grade have been building each week and are going from strength to strength. Halligans have moved back into the competition they feel more at home in and also managed to get an impressive 26 – 0 win over the previously undefeated Colleagues 6th grade side on the weekend, leaving them with 4 wins from 5 games as well.

As a club we have a lot to look forward to this year on the field and we welcome everyone down to the sideline to enjoy some great rugby. We only have 4 more games at Rawson this year.

Back to Mosman Day will be on the 18th of June and we welcome back all past players, coaches, volunteers and supporters of Mosman Rugby. The club will be focusing on getting families down to the sideline this year, there will be plenty to keep the kids entertained while you catch up with old mates.

The club has recently added two Mosman Rugby embroidered business shirts, that are made by inStichu and available online from $79. Simply select and pay for delivery when ordering if you can not get to Rawson to pick one up and we will send it out to you.

If there is anyway that you can help the club or are interested in getting involved, like running the line for lower grades or bringing your kids down to help as a ball boy, please get in contact at

Yours in rugby,

Colin the Whale
